A Date at the Philly Zoo

Okay, more like a play date, but it kind of felt like a date.

Ryan and Lucy met last summer for a play date at the beach! They immediately hit it off and became friends. Ryan’s favorite colors are green and purple, and in his spare time he enjoys watching Teen Titans with his momma, Allie. He loves to play soccer and his giggle lights up a room. Lucy’s Favorite colors are pink and purple, and loves to spend time on YouTube watching toy testing videos. Lucy’s new favorite thing to do is go to the zoo with Ryan. Ryan is a little older than Lucy so he was very patient with her, and we all knew they’d become BFF’s.

After last summer we’ve been meaning to plan another play date with Ryan and his momma, but we had crazy schedules and it took us a while to plan something. Luckily they were free this week to go to the Philly Zoo with us! We had an exhausting/super fun time and can’t wait for our next visit!

Here is what Ryan and Lucy’s day at the Zoo looked like.

First stop was the polar bears, and the black bears. They were adorable and were so fluffy.

Next stop was lunch, because they were both becoming a little cranky. Ryan chose a delicious hot dog with French fries. Lucy went with the cold choice, A turkey and cheese sandwich with Doritos. They sat down together with their matching souvenir cups and giggled away.

Ryan: Uhm, can I have a chip?

Lucy: Sure! *Hands Ryan a chip

Ryan: *Eats chip and reaches over Lucy for a handful more

Lucy: Uhhhhh I’ll put the bag in the middle of us…

After lunch we realized we were right across from the reptile house. I said “Who wants to go see the reptiles!”

Ryan: YEEEEAAAAHHH!!!!

Lucy: Uhm I think I would be scared if I went in there with the snakes…

Ryan: *Reaches out his hand. I’ll protect you.

And they ran in the reptile house together.

After seeing the reptiles, we headed up the hill towards the Cheetah and Giraffes! We learned that Cheetahs are the ONLY big cat that could purr, and that can’t roar! They thought that was pretty cool and then continued to hold hands and run to the giraffes. We watched the baby giraffes run around and a mama and daddy giraffe getting a little intimate, but I guess you can’t avoid that at the zoo ;).

Next up: Flamingoes! We learned that the reason why flamingoes are pink is because of their diet and that they are actually born grey! We practiced standing on one leg, but we weren’t very good at it…

After that, we got to go to the small mammals. We quietly went up to the vampire bats where Ryan asked if they were going to turn back into people anytime soon. Just as our eyes were adjusting to the light, one of the bats jumped right at Ryan’s face to the glass. He screamed. We all screamed. It was loud and hilarious.

Last stop: Big Cats! We saw the lions first, and then the leopards. We saw all kinds of leopards, and the difference between their spots. We kept walking through the exhibit and found the tigers! There was even a tiger above us on a bridge! It was crazy!

We headed to the gift shop where Ryan picked out a stuffed tiger and Lucy picked out a pack of animal figurines. They exchanged hugs and goodbyes and we were off to a nap.

We had an awesome time and can’t wait to go again. Now every 5 minutes Lucy asks when we are going back to the zoo with Ryan. Special thanks to Aunt Manda and Grandma for accompanying us!
